INTREPID DEFENSE & SECURITY SYSTEMS DEMONSTRATES THREE-DIMENSIONAL ROBOTIC SURGERY VISUALIZATION

September 15, 2005:  Birmingham, Michigan.  Intrepid Defense & Security Systems www.intrepiddefense.com, a Birmingham based advanced visualization systems integrator successfully demonstrated glasses-free three dimensional display of robotic surgery procedure in real time at the Henry Ford Hospital Vattikuti Urology Clinic.  The Vattikuti Clinic is a pioneer in the use of robotic surgery centers and the use of three-dimensional display of surgical procedures with the aid of special eyewear.  Intrepid’s successful demonstration allows a surgeon to observe procedures in real time and full-color without the encumbrance of special glasses that can fog, slip or interfere with normal viewing.  This demonstration provided “proof of concept” that images captured by cameras mounted to surgical microscopes can be successfully transmitted to Intrepid’s LifeVision3D™ display monitor and be seen volumetrically and in real time.  Three-dimensional display provides depth perception to the surgeon that is necessary to perform the less invasive robotic surgery, which minimizes patient trauma and contributes to a faster recovery.  “This demonstration proves unequivocally that holography can provide the highest resolution images anywhere,” states Jim Fischbach, Intrepid CEO.  “I am truly excited about the benefit this brings to remote and robotic surgery.”

Three-dimensional display of medical procedures can benefit telemedicine applications in diagnostics, injury treatment, and remote consultation in health care and military conditions.

Intrepid Defense & Security Systems, based in Birmingham, Michigan, is the exclusive licensed system integrator of LifeVision3D™ extreme high resolution visualization systems for defense and protection applications and telemedicine.  The company provides autostereoscopic three-dimensional display systems and the ability to record, transmit and display real time three-dimensional video.  System capabilities include volumetric display of stereo images, as well as Internet and live satellite broadcast in three-dimension.
